Details

Zilker 351 is a nonprofit organization of community leaders with the mission to steward Zilker Park into the future so that generations beyond ours can enjoy the treasures of this 351-acre park.

Aware of the vast landscape of organizations already in service to care for the park, we knew Zilker 351 needed a name and identity that stood out, but didn’t claim to be more than or separate from the existing advocacy groups. It needed to represent every part of Zilker, from the real to the ideal. As we put thought to why, and how, Zilker is so special, we realized the best way to convey the intention to serve, is by honoring the experience of being at the park.

We created a wordmark that let each letterform fill the expanses of the negative space around it, as if it was given enough space to stretch out and just Be, without boundaries.

Developing the mark

During the sketch phase, we drew upon everything from vestiges of past efforts around the park such as art deco entrance signage, to geographical references, to the visual similarities of the cursive Z and number 3.
